LONDON, England - Arsenal kept up the pace in the race for the Premier League title with a 1-0 away win over archrival Tottenham on Sunday. Ultra Boost España . On the ground where they last won the title, the Gunners took full advantage of leader Chelseas loss to Aston Villa on Saturday to close the gap to the leader. "It was a must-win game. We maintained the focus to not make the mistake that would cost us," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. He watched his side take the lead inside two minutes when midfielder Tomas Rosicky rifled in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area. Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain should have doubled the visitors lead in the 15th when he raced clear on goal, but his attempted lob sailed well wide of goal of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris goal. Another swift counterattack by Arsenal eventually saw Oliver Giroud square the ball across goal in the 26th, but Oxlade-Chamberlains shot deflected wide. Tottenhams striker Emmanuel Adebayor was unable to divert his shot inside the far post following a right-wing cross from Townsend shortly before the half-hour mark. Oxlade-Chamberlain blazed high over the bar from the edge of the penalty area, after Rosicky had rolled the ball into his path, having robbed Danny Rose in the 41st. The hosts started the second half with real purpose, and should have equalized in the 46th through Nacer Chadli. However, he failed to convert from close range after goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny fumbled the ball in the area. Spurs continued to press forward and Chadli missed another opportunity in the 52nd. The Belgian international attempted an extravagant flick deep inside the penalty area following Andros Townsends right-wing cross. "Tottenham played very well. We had an early lead and we were juggling between protecting the lead and finishing the game off," Wenger said. That win lifts the Gunners into third place on 62 points, four adrift of league leader Chelsea, which it faces next Saturday. "Its a great result for us," Rosicky said. "I think it is a great race for the fans and for us the players. As Ive said many times, I think it will be until the last game of the season." Tottenham remains in fifth place, seven points adrift of the final Champions League berth with eight games remaining. Ultra Boost Baratas España .Y. - The Philadelphia Eagles game at Green Bay against the Packers on Nov. Ultra Boost Baratas Rebajas .com) - American Madison Keys grabbed a first- round victory on Sunday in a rainy start to the Apia International Sydney tournament.DETROIT -- Albert Pujols doubled, and the next three batters hit singles. Then there were a couple walks, some poor Detroit fielding -- and by the time the inning ended, the Los Angeles Angels had scored eight runs. "All I could do was clap and high-five," said C.J. Wilson, the Los Angeles starter who was the beneficiary of that offensive outburst. "And be stoked for my teammates that they scored that many runs." J.B. Shuck had three hits and a career-high four RBIs, and the Angels routed the Tigers again, 14-8 on Tuesday night. Los Angeles has won seven straight against Detroit by a combined score of 48-17. Wilson (7-5) allowed five runs and seven hits in five innings, and the Angels took advantage of six Detroit errors on a rainy night. "It was just an ugly night for us. Obviously, they hit the ball all over the place and we didnt make some plays," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "We actually swung the bats halfway decent, but we just played an ugly game. We pitched and played an ugly game." Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer in the third for the Tigers, but he also made two errors. Rick Porcello (4-5) gave up seven runs and 10 hits in 4 1-3 innings. The Angels scored nine runs off him in two-thirds of an inning in April. This start looked better at first, but Los Angeles broke through in a big way in the fifth. The game was tied at 2 when Pujols hit a one-out double in the fifth. Mark Trumbo followed with a single, and Howie Kendricks single gave the Angels the lead. They werent done. Josh Hamiltons single brought home another run -- Torii Hunters throw might have been in time, but catcher Bryan Holaday couldnt handle it on the bounce -- and with runners on second and third, Alberto Callaspo was intentionally walked. Darin Downs relieved Porcello and allowed all three inherited runners to score. He walked Hank Conger to force in a run, and Erick Aybars sacrifice fly made it 6-2. Shuck followed with an RBI single, and a single by Mike Trout brought home another run. Pujols RBI single made it 9-2 and chased Downs. Evan Reed came on and immediately made a wild pickoff throw to first for an error, allowing one more run to come home. The Angels snapped a three-game losing streak with their highest-scoring game of the season. It was also the most runs allowed by the Tigers. Los Angeles is still 10 games out of firrst place in the AL West. Comprar Ultra Boost Baratas. "We need to do everything right to get to where we need to get -- to be in the race," Wilson said. "We need to get lucky. Were so far back right now, its not even scoreboard watching. We have to really pull together and get the most out of ourselves." Hamilton had three hits after entering the night in an 0-for-15 slump. He also scored three runs. Cabrera beat out Trout last year for AL MVP, and each star made his presence felt in the third. Trout drove in the games first run with a single, and Cabrera answered with an opposite-field homer, his 21st. Wilson threw seven scoreless innings in his previous start. He wasnt as sharp Tuesday, allowing three runs in the fifth immediately after his teammates had given him a 10-2 lead. Shuck made it 11-5 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, scoring Aybar, who had walked, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Holaday. Los Angeles tacked on three more runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Aybar and a two-run single by Shuck. Cabrera made both his errors that inning. It was the first time all season a team has made more than four errors. Detroit remains 3 1/2 games ahead of second-place Cleveland in the AL Central. It was raining for much of the second half of the game, and hardly any fans were left at the end. The game took 4 hours, 3 minutes. Although the outcome wasnt in much doubt, the Angels still struggled to get the final few outs. Ramon Santiago, who was hitting .163 and had entered as a replacement for Cabrera, drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to make it 14-7. A streak of lightning was visible in the distance when Hamilton caught Don Kellys sacrifice fly for the second out, and Victor Martinez grounded out to end it. "It maybe took a little bit longer, but we did what we had to," Shuck said. "It was kind of cool -- some pretty cool lightning in the background to watch." NOTES: It was the second-longest nine-inning game in baseball this season, according to STATS. The Angels have been involved in all three of the nine-inning games that reached 4 hours. ... MONTREAL -- Striker Marco Di Vaio ended speculation on his soccer future Friday by announcing that he will retire from the Montreal Impact at the end of the Major League Soccer season. Zapatillas España Baratas Online . The 38-year-old former Italian Serie-A star, in his third season with the Impact, will play his final two home games Oct. 11 against New England and Oct. 25 against D.C. United. The Rome native scored 142 goals in 342 Serie-A matches with Lazio, Bari, Salternitana, Parma, Juventus, Genoa and Bologna. He added another 31 in 72 MLS games. The announcement ended speculation that he would stay on an extra season because of the chemistry he has developed with new designated player Ignacio Piatti. There had also been reports he would return to his last Italian club to retire as a Bologna player. Di Vaio has said it would be difficult to stay on in Montreal because his wife and children live in Italy. He is expected to take a job in the Bologna organization after his playing career. After a 20-year career, I am pleased to announce that I will be retiring in Montreal as a member of the Impact, Di Vaio said in a statement Friday. I am very proud of what Ive accomplished over two decades as a pro. It was a dream of mine to play at the highest level and I will look to make the best of my final month as a player. He joined the Impact as the expansion MLS clubs first designated player on May 24, 2012. Not content to coast through his final seasons, Di Vaio played with skill and intensity in Montreal. The stocky forward known as Il Bomber scored 20 goals in 2013, when he was named to the MLS Best XI and was a finalist for league most valuable player honours. He has so far made 62 starts and played a total of 5,636 minutes for Montreal. Everything we asked of Marco has been delivered, said Impact president Joey Saputo. He accepted all the responsibilities that came with being a designated player. He was the first for this club and was the right choice. His quality and experience helped the team progress on the field, but he also helped the club with his wealth of knowledge off of it. He gained respect around the league and from its players, and its very well deserved. He will retire as the teams leader in MLS goals and shots. Di Vaio began his career with Lazio in 1995. After bumping around with a few teams, he was sold for 14 million euros in 2003 to Juventus, who he helped to win a league championship. He also helped the team reach the Champions League final in 2003, scoring four goals in 11 matches. He then moved for 10.5 million euros to Spanish club Valencia, where he played from 2004 to 2006, scoring 11 goals in 35 La Liga matches. Di Vaio joined Bologna in 2008. He served as captain for two seasons and scored 65 goals in 143 games. He had two goals in 14 international matches for Italy. MIAMI -- The San Antonio Spurs left Miami last June looking so human, Tim Duncan nearly in tears talking about how close they were to another championship. Old Skool Clearance . They dont look human now. They look like a machine. Up 3-1 and shooting the ball at a level never seen in the NBA Finals, the Spurs headed home with a chance to wrap things up on Sunday night in Game 5. The Miami Heat, who were able to deny the Spurs last year, have two days to figure out what can possibly be done to do it again. "Theyre a high-oil machine and they move the ball extremely well," LeBron James said. "They put you in so many difficult positions. If youre not right on time, right on target, theyre going to make you pay for it." The Spurs won by 19 and 21 in the two games in Miami and are shooting 54.2 per cent in the series. The NBA Finals record for a series of any length is 52.7 per cent. No team has overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals, and the Heat were so thoroughly manhandled in Miami that the only reason to think they could be the first is what they did in the past. Duncan said the memory of last seasons loss -- the pain thats driven the Spurs through this entire season -- would "definitely come up" before Sunday. "As I said, we know the calibre team they are, and we have a lot of respect for what theyre able to do," Duncan said. "Theyre able to throw it another gear and theyre going to do just that. They dont want this to be done." Duncan probably meant "done" as in the series. Of course, it could also mean the era. Two off days were sure to be filled by talk of the Heats uncertain future, with James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all eligible for free agency. Might such a one-sided beating convince James he had to leave to find a better roster elsewhere? Make him more resolute in his desire to stay and get the Heat back on top? The two-time champions have more urgent concerns now. "Did we expect to come here and lose two the way we did at home? No way," Wade said. "But we also expect to go to San Antonio and put up a better effort and try to come out with another win. So well get away from it (Friday), but well still think about what we need to do to try to get another win to keep the series alive." James simply acknowledged the obvious, that the Spurs were the better team, when they swept his Cleveland Cavaliers in 2007 for the last of their four NBA championships. But he wasnt supposed to be on the wrong side of the talent differential once he bolted for Miami, where the Heat would build a Big Three for this decade that would rival what San Antonios did last decade. But the Spurs go so far beyond Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili now. Theres Kawhi Leonard, who followed his career-high, 29-point night in Game 3 with 20 points and 14 rebounds Thursday and has done no worse than battled James to a draw over the last two games. Or Boris Diaw, who wasnt even in the starting lineup until Game 3 and had eight points, nine rebounds and nine assists in Game 4, serving as one of the catalysts for the Spurs mesmerizing ball movement. Individual players get hot all the time. The Spurs are on a team-wide hot streak. "I just think were playing Spurs basketball," Parker said. "Were just moving the ball and were just playing the way weve been playing all season. Wed like to do a good to great, the extra pass, and we preach that, and right now were clicking." It gets a little harder to keep that going when trying for that fourth win, the one the Spurs couldnt quite get last year, when even the real freewheeling teams tend to tighten up a bit. "I mean, every closeout game is very difficult, for all the obvious reasons," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. Especially if James delivers as so often when the Heat faced elimination, from his 45-point game in Boston in the 2012 Eastern Conference finals, to a triple-double against the Spurs in Game 6 last year, followed by 37 points in Game 7. He may need to deliver something similar, or a championship reign could be over sooner than expected. Cheap Old Skool China .Y. -- In a span of three days, Shabazz Napier and Connecticut knocked out both Philadelphia schools in the NCAA tournament. Cheap Old Skool . In the opener of the World Group first-round series, world No. 18 Kei Nishikori defeated Peter Polansky of Thornhill, Ont.BOSTON - Max Scherzer is hard to faze. Detroits right-hander wasnt bothered by a 47-minute rain delay in the fourth inning Friday night and wasnt flustered when the game restarted 10 minutes earlier than anticipated. And as for the defending World Series champions? They hardly troubled him at all. Scherzer tossed six shutout innings, outdueling Boston ace Jon Lester and leading the Tigers to a 1-0 win over the Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series. "The rain delay had no effect on me," said Scherzer, who won his sixth straight start and lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.83. "When I went back out there for the fourth, it was the same." So was his stuff. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner allowed just three hits over six-plus innings before being removed after a leadoff single by Mike Carp in the seventh. "This might have been the best his stuff has been all year," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. Scherzer (6-1) disagreed, citing a below-average changeup and his four walks, one of which was intentional. "Its always going to drive me crazy when Im not throwing first-pitch strikes and when Im walking guys," said Scherzer, who struck out seven. "Even though I wasnt able to do that tonight, when runners were on base I was still able to make big-time pitches." Joba Chamberlain retired the side in the eighth and closer Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save of the season. Torii Hunter delivered an RBI single in the first inning for the Tigers, playing their first game against the Red Sox since losing last years American League Championship Series in six games. Times have changed. Detroit has baseballs best record at 25-12, winning 13 of its last 16 games and nine in a row on the road. Scherzer is a major reason why. He faced the minimum through three innings before rain halted play with one out in the top of the fourth. While it definitely put a damper on the marquee matchup of aces, the delay barely slowed Scherzer, who stayed warm by throwing in the cages and was ready to go when the game restarted ahead of schedule. "For me, once I was able to get loose, I felt the same," he said. Cheap Nike NBA Jerseys. Had the delay lasted longer, Scherzers night may have prematurely come to an end. "Right around an hour would have been too much," Ausmus said. "Theres a little bit of a grey area on either side of that, but if it had gone much longer, he probably would have been done." Following the delay, David Ortiz recorded Bostons first hit with a two-out single in the fourth, but was left on base when Scherzer fanned Carp. David Ross singled to begin the sixth but was stranded on third when Scherzer struck out Napoli. "I didnt pitch my best, but when runners were on base and I needed to make big pitches, I made big pitches," Scherzer said. "Thats the difference in the game." Lester (4-5) exited the game after five innings and 94 pitches. He gave up just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. "With the rain delay, we were in that situation nearly an hour and werent going to push Jon more than the five innings tonight," Boston manager John Farrell said. "But to think one run in the first inning was going to be the difference, probably didnt anticipate that." Lester laboured through a 27-pitch first inning, highlighted by Hunters run-scoring single that plated Ian Kinsler, who singled. "I actually felt better coming out of the rain delay then I did coming into the game," Lester said. "I felt like I threw the ball a lot better the last two innings than I did the first three. I felt like I could have gone one more, but it wasnt my decision." NOTES: Lester and Scherzer had faced off just once before, on Sept. 3, 2013, in a 2-1 Boston victory. It was the type of mistake that could prove costly for Toronto in the playoffs, but this time the Raptors were able to overcome it. DeMar DeRozan scored 14 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter, and the Raptors tied a franchise record for victories with a 116-107 win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday. Lowry scored 28 points before fouling out with 5:51 remaining. "I was just glad the guys won it without me," Lowry said. "DeMar was rested going into the fourth quarter, and he really took over down the stretch. Thats what happens when he is aggressive -- he can take over a game." The Raptors (47-33) had already clinched the Atlantic Division, and the victory over Detroit was their 10th in 14 games. Toronto has reached the 47-win mark for the third time. The Raptors went 47-35 in 2001 and 2007. Andre Drummond had 14 points and 17 rebounds for the Pistons in the final home game of their dismal season. Detroits Josh Smith missed a fourth straight game with tendinitis in his left knee. Detroit trailed by as many as 18 in the first half but rallied to take the lead late in the third quarter. But no matter what the Pistons did, DeRozan always seemed to have an answer in the fourth. "I understood if we were going to win the game, then I had to step it up," DeRozan said. "I just tried to make plays for us and get a couple of easy baskets." DeRozans three-point play put the Raptors ahead 97-95 and started an 11-2 run. His emphatic, right-handed dunk made it 107-99 and thrilled the vocal contingent of Toronto fans who were in attendance. "The fanss were unbelievable," Lowry said. Wholesale Air Max 90. A three-point play by Terrence Ross put Toronto up 20-5, and an alley-oop to DeRozan made it 28-12. It was 42-26 at the end of the quarter, and DeRozans four-point play early in the second made it 46-28. "We had no rhythm early on and we didnt guard. You give a team 42 points in the first quarter, I dont know what your chance of winning is, but I would think in this league its pretty low," Pistons interim coach John Loyer said. "Then you really have to fight uphill the whole way. But to our guys credit, they fought an uphill battle." The Pistons trailed 63-49 at halftime but made a game of it by outscoring Toronto 37-24 in the third. Detroit dominated the boards, finishing with 21 offensive rebounds. Greg Monroe had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Lowrys fifth foul came with 6:11 remaining. He then fouled out going after a rebound on a missed shot by DeRozan. The Pistons couldnt take advantage, though. After a free throw by Drummond cut Detroits deficit to two, Jonas Valanciunas answered with a free throw and Ross made a 3-pointer for the Raptors. A layup by Patrick Patterson made it 105-97. NOTES: Detroits Tony Mitchell had four fouls in 6:16 of playing time in the first quarter. HOUSTON -- When Chandler Parsons started the season 0 for 8 on 3-pointers, the Houston Rockets were confident that they would start falling for him eventually. China Jerseys . Pretty soon he started hitting a few, and on Friday night he was a career-best 6 of 6 from behind the arc. Parsons scored 21 points and the Rockets picked up their fourth straight win, rolling to an easy 114-95 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. "I started the season shooting really poorly," Parsons said. "Its all about staying confident and sticking with it and just continuing to put in the work in the gym. Ive worked too hard for it not to start paying off." The Rockets led by 26 points at halftime and Brooklyn coach Jason Kidd benched all his starters except Brook Lopez for the entire second half. "We had to go with the guys who were going to play hard," Kidd said. "Those were the guys, and I played them the whole second half." Houston made a season-high 19 3-pointers, led by the perfect night by Parsons, who scored all his points in the first three quarters. "If you get ball movement that we want and body movement that we want, we should be able to get open 3s," coach Kevin McHale said. "We are one of the teams that looks for it and shoots a lot of them." James Harden scored nine points with seven assists for the Rockets in his return after missing three games with a sore left foot. He played almost 26 minutes. Lopez was also back after sitting out the last six games with a sprained left ankle. He started in place of Kevin Garnett and scored 16 points in about 21 minutes. "The last three teams have great 3-point shooting teams and we gave them easy looks from that distance," Lopez said, adding that he felt great after the game. Mason Plumlee and Tyshawn Taylor each scored 16 points for the Nets, who have dropped 10 of their last 12. Taylors 16 points were a career high and he also had 12 assists. Kidd said he thinks his starters werent playing hard because they were fatigued before this trip after playing in Toronto on Tuesday before a home game against the Lakers on Wednesday. "Thats a problem," he said. "We have to address that ... weve got to figure out what the problem is with our starting group." Omri Casspi scored 16, Francisco Garcia had 15 and Dwight Howard added 12 points and seven rebounds. Brooklyn shot just 33 per cent overall in the first half and only 10 per cent from 3-point range. Brooklyns backups didnt fare any better. Houston used an 8-2 run in the third quarter to make its lead 80-48. Parsons had a 3-pointer during the run and Terrence Jones also scored three points. The Rockets led by 16 with about five minutes left in the second quarter before using a 16-6 spurt to push the lead to 66-40 at halftime. The Nets missed seven shots, had two turnovers and allowed the Rockets to have easy look after easy look as they built the lead. The Rockets led 33-17 at the end of the first quarter. Houston scored the games first six points and was up by four before using a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 25-8 with about three minutes left in the first quarter. Howard missed a hook shot at the end of that run before Casspi grabbed the rebound and tossed a no-look, backward pass to Garcia. His 3-point attempt bounced off the rim but Howard was there to tip it in. Harden showed that he was feeling good early when he juked Joe Johnson off the dribble at the top of the key, drawing an ooh from the crowd, and dashed into the lane for a wide-open layup. He missed it, but Howard was there to grab the rebound and finish with a dunk. NOTES: Kidd said he was just "trying to win" when he intentionally spilled a drink on the court, a stunt that cost him $50,000. "Its about trying to win and those guys in that locker room, and I tried to put those guys in a position to get a basket, a good look and we did," he said. ... "I dont think Im a dirty player."   In his nine seasons in the NHL, Murray has never been disciplined by the league.   Murray becomes the 30th player to be suspended during the 2013-14 season and the first Canadien. TORONTO -- After weeks of rumour and speculation about his future in MLS, star striker Jermain Defoe presented his side of the story Wednesday. Wholesale Authentic Jordans . Bottom line? The 31-year-old English international is happy to be back in Toronto and any transfer talk was out of his hands. Toronto FC has acknowledged turning down a franchise-record bid for Defoe at the closing of the summer transfer window and the talk did not stop there. Such speculation, said Defoe, is part of football and players have no control over offers from other clubs. "In England, its normal -- where theres speculation about players leaving, players going ... At the end of the day Im still a TFC player and Im totally committed to the cause," he told a news conference Wednesday, his first public comments since returning from England where he had been nursing a groin injury. "For me it was sort of like Oh here we go again," he added. "It was just normal. I didnt really pay too much attention to it because I think my main focus was trying to get fit. People that know me, they know I love playing football and I find it really it difficult to be on the sidelines. Especially at such a crucial time, pushing for the playoffs. I want to be involved, I want to score goals, I want to push the club forward." It was a polished 17 1/2-minute solo performance from Defoe, sitting at a table in front of a sizable media corps in the upstairs lounge at TFCs training centre. Defoe had shrugged off help from handlers in advance, saying he knew what he wanted to say. "I never came out anyway and said I wanted to leave," Defoe, tattoos peeking out from a black T-shirt above jeans, said by way of summary. One suspects Defoes agent did not sit on his hands during the transfer window and who can blame him. Goal-scoring strikers are always in demand and Defoe has ties to the likes of Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp. Still Defoe single-handedly managed to stuff the transfer genie back into the bottle, at least for a while. "I dont know whats going to happen in the future. All I can say to the fans is Im fully committed," he said. And with a salary listed at US$6.18 million this season, not to mention a reported list of perks that would do Van Halen proud, the five-foot-seven striker is not exactly roughing it on this side of the Atlantic. He is back but not yet fully healthy. Defoe ran Tuesday, only the second time since the injury, and said there was no negative reaction. He did some work in the gym Wednesday and hopes to be back in full training Monday. An Oct. 4 game against the Galaxy in Los Angeles seems the first possible return date. He said patience is the key, given he had made the mistake of coming back too fast in the past. Toronto (10-11-7) could use him. With six games remaining, the seventh-place team is three points out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Defoe has missed 12 games this season through injury or suspension but still leads the team in scoring with 11 goals in 16 MLS contests. He has played 150 minutes, appearing in two of TFCs 11 league games since July 19. If anything, he says he wants more football. He said going out on loan to another club to keep sharp for the next MLS season was not out of the question, with Redknapp having already made the suggestion. "Its something Ive thought about doing before I come back, so Im ready to go and Im sharp and Im fit," Defoe said. Given his recent health problems, which have been blamed on playing back-to-back English and MLS seasons, adding to his football schedule would seem to be a gamble, however. He himself acknowledged he had played 14-15 months straight "Again I love my football and Ive always tried to look after my body. Im someone whos tee-total, I dont drink, I always do my stuff in the gym." Defoe insisted he has enjoyed his North American experience, calling it amazing. "I think Im lucky enough to be at a fantastic football club with special fans. Ive said that many times. And theres some fantastic people at the football club. From Day 1, I walked into the changing rooms, the players downstairs, all the boys have been fantastic. I think that helped me settle in and I felt at home. "Its then just down to me to get on the pitch and perform. I love scoring goals. I love playing football." There have been no shortage of stories about Defoes future on either side of the Atlantic and some made their way through to Defoe despite his best efforts. "I just tried to blank it out," he said. "Obviously you see things on the TV. Social medias powerful when you see things. But I just tried to block it out and just concentrate on getting myself fit so I can come back and push for the playoffs." Some stories left a mark. The former West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham striker made a point of denying one story that had him texting former manager Ryan Nelsen to say "If youre gone, Im gone." "Thats not true," said Defoe. "Thats hard to sit back and read something like that when I know thats not true. I would never do anything like that." Defoe said he went back to England to get a second opinion on a lingering groin injury. An initial scan had shown a strained adductor and a lower abdominal muscle strain. He kept playing though it and it got to the point, where he could feel it while running and it was sore shooting. A second scan showed the same. Fearing he had a hernia, he went to see a specialist and was a day away from going under the knife. Instead he went to a physio he had worked with before in England and was told the problem related to his hip. He had several injections, did rehab and worked on strengthening his core. "It feels a lot better," he said. Since returning, Defoe said he had met with manager Greg Vanney and came away "really impressed" by what he heard. As to comments from outgoing MLSE CEO Tim Leiweke that he did not expect Defoe to be back next season, Defoe said Leiweke had reached out to say "he didnt mean it like that." Cheap Real Jordans Free Shipping . -- Arizona pitcher Bronson Arroyo is expected to miss a week to 10 days because of a back injury. Cheap Jordans From China .com) - Devan Dubnyk stopped all 30 shots fired his way and made several big saves down the stretch for his third shutout of the season as the Minnesota Wild beat the Calgary Flames 1-0 on Tuesday.Saskatchewan Roughriders slotback Chris Getzlaf has been officially ruled out for Sundays Western Semi-Final matchup against the B.C. Carlyle, alongside team president Brendan Shanahan and general manager Dave Nonis, continued to hunt for the remainders of a coaching staff, following the dismissal of his three assistant coaches – including long-time no. 2 Dave Farrish – in early May. The Leafs plan on hiring two new assistant coaches to support Carlyle, who received a two-year contract extension after Farrish, Greg Cronin and Scott Gordon were fired. Touching down in the state of Pennsylvania with team personnel on Wednesday, Carlyle has been speaking with prospective candidates all week and throughout the early stages of summer. "We have a criteria," he said of the interview process, minutes before Fridays draft was to begin. "We sat down and we created a few boxes that we felt we needed to fill. "And its typical where youre in an interview process you look for peoples strengths and the experience is always a factor – where theyve worked before or who theyve worked with; have they ever been a head coach before; what programs have they run; what were their jobs with their previous employer; did they run power-play or penalty killing units. Those are the kind of things that typically go into an interview process." Though he managed to hold onto his job, significant alterations to his coaching staff were deemed necessary after a season that rapidly deteriorated into another playoff-less season. Absent answers to the wreckage amid the unraveling, Carlyle has finally digested what took place and is looking to turn the page. But he remains of the view that "compete" was the downfall of a club that tumbled out of a certain playoff position in the final weeks. "We didnt comppete enough in the situations that we were presented with and consistently enough," said Carlyle, noticeably relaxed after a stressful season. Air Max 270 Cheap Wholesale. . Change is coming, he understands, and not just to the coaching staff. With a glut of unrestricted free agents – many of whom wont return – and multiple pieces to adjust and rearrange, the Leafs will resemble a different team in the fall. Just how different remains unclear, but it appears that youth should be part of the agenda with Morgan Rielly, Peter Holland, Carter Ashton, Jerry DAmigo, Petter Granberg, Josh Leivo among others in line to either garner more opportunity or earn NHL jobs. "Theyre going to be given more of an opportunity," Carlyle said. "Thats our plan. Our teams not going to be the same coming back. Its as simple as that. With the amount of unrestricted free agents that we have and the make-up of our group we know that some of those players wont be back with our hockey club." A favourite of Carlyle, in spite of his brief Toronto experience, Dave Bolland could be among them. The Leafs have engaged in a back and forth with the Bolland camp – fronted by agent Anton Thun – but have yet to find agreeable terms ahead of July 1st."Its not that were not speaking to each other," Nonis said Thursday, "its at this point we havent been able to find common ground for a deal." Bolland is one among many potential changes for the Leafs, who are also likely to shuffle their bottom-six forward group (with a glut of unrestricted free agents), defence, and backup goaltending position. Adjustment to the core group, following the second regular season collapse in three years, is also a distinct possibility. All of which means a busy offseason ahead for Carlyle and the Toronto management team. ' ' '
